Blessings from a Tragedy
« on: June 10, 2006, 11:02:18 PM »

My wife is in San Luis Obispo this weekend seeing her sister graduate from Cal Poly.  She called me this morning with a story that I just had to share.

Last year our niece, Christa, died from a drug overdose.  She was only 20.  Her mom, Ruth's sister Bonnie, is a strong Christian, and with the help of family and friends, is getting trough it.  It has been a tough year for Bonnie, putting herself through school and raising her other daughter, Susanna, who at 16 is diabetic.

While preparing for the graduation ceremony, Bonnie got a chance to sit down and talk with one of her classmates.  This girl told Bonnie that she had been very depressed that year and was seriously thinking about taking her own life.  Although Bonnie had kept what happened to Christa as quiet as she could, a friend of this girl knew what had happened to Christa and shared it.  Over the past couple of months, this girl saw how Christa's death had affected Bonnie, and she said it gave her a whole new perspective of her own mother.  She has gotten past any thoughts of killing herself and is now graduating.  When she shared her story with Bonnie, the two of them just sat there and cried.

God has used Christa's death to save another girls life.  How many other times, when things go terribly wrong, does He use it for His Glory.  Knowing Bonnie, if this girl doesn't know our Lord now, she will by the time summer is over.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.
