Let's Go Wheeling! / 3/18/20 snow run
« on: March 11, 2020, 05:43:05 PM »
I know it's a Wednesday, but it's my birthday and, with the current stormy weather bringing fresh snow, I'd like to go snow wheeling. Anyone? I'm up for most anywhere, but my first choice would be above Bass Lake. What say you?

My brother is thinking of buying a trail Toyota, but he's not mechanically inclined and so wants to know if anyone would recommend a mechanic (somewhat) near Pleasanton, CA. If no mechanic, then no trail Toyota. Thoughts?

Let's Go Wheeling! / Wheeling Oct 28 and 29 2017

My son and I are going wheeling October 28 - 29 and invite you to join us. Tyler wants to do Mirror Lake and I'm thinking of Coyote Lake, too. The itinerary and details aren't settled, but the idea is. (Last year we were rained on, but ended up staying in a Shaver motel.) Chime in with your ideas and let's go.

Let's Go Wheeling! / snow wheeling 2/18/2017
« on: February 21, 2017, 04:34:22 PM »
This last weekend I went snow wheeling with my son Tyler, some of you will remember him, my brother and a friend of the family. Being a long holiday weekend we got some wheeling in and based our excursions out of my brother's vacation home in Arnold, near Murphys. There was snow, and rain, and it was fun. We broke untraveled trails and cleared 8 trees over the weekend. The link https://goo.gl/photos/jJipsoqnzDrgjpsf7 gives an idea of what it was like. Good times....

Let's Go Wheeling! / snow wheeling 1/21/17
« on: January 18, 2017, 05:20:30 PM »
There will (still) be snow... ;D

Time for another snow trip! We'll meet at the Oakhurst Vons at 0845 and leave at 0900 heading for Sky Ranch Rd. We'll aim for the Star Lake trailhead and see how far we get. If anyone knows the way to Fish Camp from that direction we might try that. For those that want to, we'll have dinner at Pete's in Oakhurst before coming down the hill. The weather forecast is for rain Friday, snow Saturday AM and decreasing chances of rain during the day with the high at 44. It should be fun.

Please post up if you are coming so we look for you before leaving Vons. Wooo hoooooo... :)

Let's Go Wheeling! / 10/29/16 Bald and Red run
« on: October 24, 2016, 04:27:23 PM »
My son Tyler (of flat tire at Shuteye Lookout renown) and I are wheeling for the weekend and welcome others, too.

We plan to camp at Bald Mountain Base Camp and run to the Bald Tower Friday night.

Then, Plan A is to meet at the Tamarack Snow Park at 0845 and leave at 0900 for Red Lake. We'll have lunch at Red, come out and head for Mirror Lake. My son is not taking his Tacoma into Mirror, but will ride with me. Plan A is contingent on someone else also going into Mirror. We might fish at Mirror a little (last time we got a fish on almost every cast!), but then come out and go to Strawberry for the night. Plan B is the same as A, except to spend more time at Red, then go into Strawberry for the night. Sunday we'll go find the Bald parts we missed and go home about 2pm.

If there are those who want to go into Red and stay longer than us, no problem.

This is somewhat ambitious, but doable I think. Please post up if you'd like to join us for any part of this, we can refine plans as needed and we will look for you before pulling out. It should be fun.

Let's Go Wheeling! / Star Lake Sat Jul 30
« on: July 28, 2016, 09:29:17 AM »
Anyone interested in a day trip to Star Lake and avoid the valley heat? This is a relatively easy trail with great scenery along the way. We'll meet Saturday morning at the Oakhurst Vons at 8:45 and plan to leave at 9:00. We may have some "open the trail work" to do, but I'm hoping for more of a relaxing day with some scouting thrown in. For those who want to, we'll stop at Pete's for dinner in Oakhurst.

You must post up here or contact me so we know you're coming or the run will be cancelled! It should be fun and we look forward to seeing you there. :)

What is going on with 4x 4Him Christian Wheelers / Vehicle Inspection
« on: March 12, 2016, 04:07:25 PM »
In place of our 1st Saturday of the Month Run, we will have a Vehicle Inspection in Fresno on Saturday, April 2. We will have a world class Inspector, Marlin of Marlin Crawler (and others to assist), in attendance to help make sure your rig is ready for this year's wheeling season. There is no charge to have your rig reviewed and there may be time to get some simple work done on things that need doing. The details:

Place: The parking lot in front of CA Tiny House (Pat Mosley's business), 3337 W Sussex Way, Fresno. This is near Ashlan and 99.
When: April 2, 2016 starting at 9:00 AM until finished or mid afternoon, whichever comes first.

Note: Pat has graciously offered his parking lot and access to his restroom, but his shop is full. Bring a floor jack if you have one, some tools if you want to tinker with your rig and any parts or fluids you need for any maintenance you want to do. We can help (some) with this.

You'll receive a completed vehicle inspection report, listing what's good and what needs attention on your vehicle. A copy of the vehicle inspection report is attached so you can review it before hand. (You'll also get a chance to see who's done what to their rig this winter!)

Bring your lunch, something to sit and eat on, your ham radio, your RC vehicle, and spouse and kids if you want. This promises to be a fun day for families along with the vehicle inspection.

Some things we need:
1. It would be nice to have food along with our fellowship, so a person willing to arrange for a BBQ lunch would be our hero. This would entail arranging for (you could find friends to help you with any part of this, or do it yourself): getting the BBQs from Jacob; BBQing; buying dogs and/or burgers for which there will be a donation can with the Club picking up any shortfall; gathering the other implements needed, e.g., table(s) for serving (I have 2 tables), BBQ implements, condiments, paper plates, napkins, etc. We have some of this, but it has to be gathered and I'm sure there would be some help. We need someone with a servant's heart to coordinate lunch. If not, everyone will be on their own for lunch as stated above.

2. Some traffic cones.

3. 3 clip boards.

4. Floor jacks and jack stands. Not everyone has these so if you could bring yours it might be very handy.

5. Used oil container for those who want to change their oil, etc. Bring your own fluids if you want to do this and we can help get it done.

6. Any other things you perceive might be helpful for an inspection such as this. We haven't done this before this way so your ideas are welcome. Please contact me @ monyman14@gmail.com or 559-972-2200 cell if you have any of the above items or any questions.

This is a club event so your 4 wheeling friends are welcome, just like for a run or Club Meeting, but this is not for the general public. Please post up if you'll attend so we can plan for: time to allow to perform inspections; parking; food; etc. We look forward to seeing you there.

Let's Go Wheeling! / snow wheeling Mon 12/28/15
« on: December 21, 2015, 09:51:59 PM »
We're going to the snow! Meet Monday, 12/28, at the Oakhurst Vons at 0845 or earlier, and we'll plan to leave by 0900 for Sky Ranch Rd. We'll see how far we get before coming back to Pete's for dinner.

So far it's Monyman, Zerlang and RockRanger, and you're welcome to join in the fun. Post up so we know to look for you before we leave.

Let's Go Wheeling! / snow wheeling Sat 11/28/15
« on: November 26, 2015, 11:47:17 AM »
This Saturday I'd really like to get my first snow fix of the season. I don't want to fight the Bald Mtn crowd so am thinking of Sky Ranch Road. We'll meet at the Oakhurst Vons at 0900 or earlier and leave by 0915 sharp. We'll head toward the Star Lake trailhead, turn around when we run out of time and come back for dinner at Pete's (or not Pete's if you need to get back to town). Post up if this is you and let's go to the snow!

Let's Go Wheeling! / Coyote Lake 10/24/15
« on: October 13, 2015, 09:03:32 PM »
Have you been wanting to go to Coyote Lake, but needed a group to go with? If so, come join us as we head to Coyote Lake for the day on Saturday, 10/24. Because this is a fairly long day and Coyote is rougher than just Red Lake we're asking participants to have 35" tires and at least one locker. This isn't intended to be mean or elitist, but to allow the group to keep moving so there is adequate time to do the trail. Weather may further complicate things by adding another layer of difficulty.

If this sounds like you and you need a Coyote fix, please post up here and join us. We'll meet at the Tamarack Sno Park at 0800 and plan to leave by 0815 or so. Lunch will be at Coyote Lake and back out by late afternoon. Those that want to stop for dinner in Shaver or Prather may find some takers in the group.

It's been 10+ years since I've been to Coyote so it'll be like brand new. Come join the fun!
